yfw youre trying to write a song and forget to actually check up on the thread Nice One Ness
uh i assumed the purpose of the locket was because phoenix first said the locket was his and that it had a picture of his daughter in it (which isnt really a lie??) but then in the song he says it's the victim's locket and apollos like YOU SAID IT WAS YOURS WHAT THE HELL MAN
i'm just lost on where to take the song from there melody-wise oops i tried doing more?? the end of the song that i did before the beginning (good tactics here, nice one) was in D minor so i tried to put a key signature change after apollo talks about perjury and idk how well it's working but im trying to start like...advancing the song after a million years

He actually never explicitly states it was his.

I CANT REMEMBER IF I TYPED SHINTO BECAUSE I KNEW THE BLACKLIST WOULD CATCH IT NO MATTER WHAT I DID OR IF I FORGOT AND TYPED THE FORBIDDEN WORD ANYWAYS
but now im...confused about the locket itself even though i was initially just stuck on how to continue

I mean it wasn't even my fault. I wrote all of the songs under the assumption that we weren't going to do it. Then someone wrote a song with the locket and I was like "wait you should take that part out" and then there was an argument and some of the songs got changed and some of them didn't? And I was just like "whyyyyy"

Phoenix (sung):
To solve this murder’s mystery, What it takes is right in my hand, The victim’s locket is the key, One day you’ll understand.
Apollo (spoken): The victim’s locket?! You said it was yours! That’s perjury!
Phoenix (sung):
Lies everywhere, no room for belief, But what I said on the stand was true: It’s a photo of my daughter, still I’m a thief, Does that still count as perjury to you?
Apollo (thinking): But there’s no reason why the victim should have a photo of his daughter, right?
i think that the part with the locket is fine if it was a little less vague. i don't know if this is right, but my understanding is that apollo is making a mistake by assuming phoenix said the locket belonged to him because it only makes sense that the locket belongs to phoenix if it's a photo of phoenix's daughter inside, right? but it doesn't, so phoenix technically isn't lying here when he says it belongs to the victim because phoenix never claimed ownership of the locket in the first place.
if that's the case, phoenix should correct apollo in a more straightforward way. aa4 phoenix loves to be vague and mysterious, but it shouldnt be too vague. if phoenix never corrects apollo on the whole "all i said was that theres a photo of my daughter in the locket, not that it belongs to me" thing, it just looks like a continuity error, not apollo assuming something incorrect
also, this line:
Apollo (thinking): But there’s no reason why the victim should have a photo of his daughter, right?
it's really hard to convey thinking lines like this, so i think he should just speak to phoenix here: "But why would the victim have a photo of YOUR daughter...?" and trail off, while phoenix totally ignores him and goes back to the "chorus," leaving apollo in the dark.

We all are connected to this project through the golden chains of fate. If we leave, we're bound to come back eventually.
And ness, if you take that thought and run through Act 1 with a sharpie and scribble it all over the place you will be this musical's hero

i.........return after not posting for 300 years even though this song is one of my responsibilities i am so sorry
anyways, spring break is coming up and having to cram for a recital has gotten me much more familiar with the piano so i figured i'd try to work on it with my marginally greater understanding of composition. unfortunately, the only reason i haven't put any updates here wrt the instrumental in about [coughs] 300 years would be because i'm stuck regarding the melody of the lyrics. also, i think it would be a little more helpful of me if i actually proposed an edit to the dialogue itself wrt the locket thing instead of just pointing out the inconsistency, so here is what i have:
--
Phoenix (sung):
To solve this murder’s mystery,
What it takes is right in my hand,
The victim’s locket is the key,
One day you’ll understand.
Apollo (spoken): The victim’s locket?! You said it was yours! That’s perjury!
Phoenix (spoken): Not so fast.
Phoenix (sung):
Lies everywhere, no room for belief,
But what I said on the stand was true:
It’s a photo of my daughter, that's all that was said
Does that still count as perjury to you?
Apollo (thinking): But- Mr. Wright, why would the victim have a photo of /your/...
Phoenix (sung, interrupting Apollo):
Knowledge is a curse I don’t share with you,
The most bitter truth you don’t want to find.
If I opened your eyes for you so you could see it too,
You'd be giving up the privilege of being blind.
--
i think that clarifies that apollo is the one jumping to conclusions and stops it from looking like a writing error. also, this line: Apollo (spoken): I worked with Gavin because of blissful ignorance. i think instead it should say "Apollo (spoken): I worked with Gavin because I was blind." keeping with that theme of being in the dark, apollo's eyes, etc.
thats..all i have still no updates on the melody or chords RIP

I gave Kai a redrafted version of the song a while back, but I have no idea where it is now. I'll see if it's still in my Google Docs.

Alright, so, like? I wanted to try and redo this song. And I...definitely redid it. Wanted to give it more of a "Reawakening" vibe. MP3 (messed up SO MUCH) LYRICS: The doors are open A day’s beginning The lights are shining I can’t believe we Were winning Just shows that dreams come true And I wish I knew all the things I’m feeling Pointed the hand of Justice In Mr Wright’s direction Proved he’s not guilty And I feel like I should Shout objection ‘Cause now there’s no-one in my way And today’s that kind of day - though I think I’m still reeling Today was that day, and Today was that trial I did it my way And I did it with style I found the truth Though it seemed so far away Oh yeah! I see a light, and it’s beckoning brightly I’ll fight for truth and I’ll do it all rightly I’ve got all the facts, all the proof and the plans The criminal’s somewhere and I’ve got the evidence And no matter what comes down the line I just know I’m gonna be fine This is our victory, so don’t let me down from this high Who says that Justice is blind?
