So! I had some ideas to combine our two songs into one. Here's some lyrics I'm playing with!
Again, I want to SUPER emphasize that there's no pressure to use these-- if you hate them, feel free to say so!! But I think we can make something cooler together than we can separately, so I figured I'd at least give it a go!
Feel free to change things, rearrange things, completely discard this, or just use scraps of it. Whatever you wanna do!
I'm still a little concerned with the first section being too close to August Day, but I really liked some of the elements you came up with, so I've incorporated them as best I can while distancing it from Matthew's work.
HERE WE GO!
APOLLO:(Is doing vocal warmups to the CHORDS OF STEEL. It's more croaked than sung--I have this headcanon that Apollo is basically tone deaf, and only is on key when he's singing in 'musical mode')
(Sung)
Up at the crack of dawn
I think my brain just stifled a yawn
Barely slept a wink
I just couldn't get my brain not to think
What might happen if I fail
What will my client do?
But I know I will prevail
I will see this case through!
I'll be fine
I say time after time
All the same, murder's a serious crime
But I'll be fine!
As long as I hang on!
I'll find the truth
The lies will fall
And I will bring justice for all!
[At this point, Apollo begins traveling to the courthouse]
It's my first day and my first real case
The first time it matters if I make a mistake
And what if I do? That could be the end
No! If I'm filled with doubt, then I'll just pretend
That no matter what comes down the line
That I just know I'm gonna be fine
Whether it's my first or my five-hundredth day
Here comes JUSTICE! With a capital J
[He arrives at the courthouse door as he finishes the last line, probably TRIUMPHANTLY BELTING AT THE TOP OF THE STEPS. Then, he turns to open the door--it's locked. Of course it is. He checks his watch.]
(Spoken)
8:45... whoops.
(Sung)
Fifteen minutes before they open the doors
I've gotta win the day
But my hands are shaking and my throat is aching
What if things don't go my way?
I was up all night and I know that Wright
Didn't do the things they say
I'm still fine, right on time, I will shine
And I'll do it my way!
[Finally, the doors open. The confidence he had seconds before evaporates as he enters the building, intimidated by the scale of the place. He starts pacing.]
But how can I find the truth
When the truth is I'm terrified
These are dark times,
I have so little light to shine
And I don't know how to show
This justice of mine
No--I'll be fine!
I'll say again and again
'Til I believe what I'm saying is true
I'll be fine!
I'll say it even when
I'm lost and I don't have a clue
I'll find the lies, we'll win the prize,
Justice will rise--
[The music swells and seems to be preparing for a triumphant final chorus, but is cut off by Kristoph Gavin]
KRISTOPH:
(Spoken)
Justice? You're certainly early.
Aaaand that's all I have so far! I think we could have Kristoph and Apollo have a short back and forth there, then go back into the song for a final verse, but it could also feasibly end there. If we were to add an additional verse to this version, I would like to return to the "Here comes Justice/With a capital J" theme at some point. Anyway, let me know what you think!
