Lumos, I tried very very hard to get it to work but it was so convoluted I left it out so I'm glad you understand that.
Here's a rough draft of the whole thing. If you're wondering if I have a melody, I kind of do. Ish. But it's not very good.
(O)
Orly: Customer ask me to deal cards. The victim, he plays with his hand on locket at his neck. Then, last hand is done! But something terrible has happened, dah! That man flew at victim, and is strangling him to death!
Apollo: That’s not true!
Kristoph: Obviously. So find the contradiction and object to it. Cross-examination is like poker, Justice: If you play your cards right, you can’t lose. And if these cards happen to be the ones that brought us here, wreathed in their blue flame, all the better.
Apollo: Uh… Okay.
Judge: Witness, who won the game?
Orly: The one who went kaput.
Apollo: Objection! That’s ridiculous! Because, uh… Mr. Wright can’t lose!!!
Kristoph: ...Mr. Justice?
Apollo: Yeah?
Kristoph: Would you mind making a more legitimate objection?
Apollo: But he hadn’t lost in seven years!
Kristoph: But there’s a chance he lost this game, and the law does not rely on maybes. The law is absolute.
(sung)
We’re not the kind of lawyers
To base our case on bluffs.
So find a contradiction--
Our evidence is enough.
Look through the court record--
With it you won’t be lonely
You’ll find exactly what you need
To shred that testimony.
Apollo: I think I found just what I need!
Kristoph: You found the right connection?
Then do what Chords of Steel do best
And yell…
Apollo (spoken): Objection! Miss Orly, the victim wasn’t strangled! The autopsy report says he was hit over the head!
Orly: Aack!
Kristoph: Good job, Justice.
Payne: But the fact remains, Mr. Justice, that the victim is dead because your client is a sore loser!
Orly: It is true, Wright lose. Smith had many more chips than the defendant.
Apollo: But if you do the math, Mr. Wright had more points!
Orly: Argh!
Payne: But that would mean the defendant was winning! Why would the defendant kill the victim if he won?
Apollo: ...Exactly! There’s no motive at all!
Payne: Ack!
Orly: Objection! I... I have lied. Wright was angry because...There was cheat. There were five aces, not four.
Apollo: Objection! There are only four in the photo!
Orly: But... There were five! I swear to you…
Kristoph (sung):
When there’s a contradiction,
We may only trust the facts
Examine the hand of cards
To see how you should act.
Apollo (spoken): Examine the cards…? Ack! There’s a blue card in here! They’re all supposed to be red, like me!
Orly: Impossible! I put that card in WRIGHT’s hand!
Apollo: ...What?
Kristoph: Evidence is all we have
But there are some who cheat
The facts are always bendable
To those who know deceit.
(spoken)
Isn’t that right, witness?
Orly: Ahhh!
Apollo: If she was the only other person in the room, then… You’re the murderer we’re looking for!
(Music stops)
Orly (loses accent): You're wrong! I'll admit, I'm a pro dealer, but I’m no murderer. And my last name is pronounced like "Oh really!"
Judge: Oh, really?
Orly: You want the truth? Fine. I, Olga "quick-fingers" Orly was hired to make our unbeatable legend look bad-- slip a few cards up his sleeve, deal five aces, have Smith expose him as a cheater, and ruin his reputation.
Apollo: Doesn’t the guy look bad enough as is?
Orly: It didn't matter, so long as I got paid. As soon as Smith finished searching him, Wright picked up a bottle and swung it.
Apollo: Why would Mr. Wright hit the victim? The trap failed!
Orly: I don’t know! All I know is that I saw it happen!
Apollo: Witness… Why are you touching your neck?
Kristoph: What are you going on about, Apollo?
Apollo: Every time she mentions the moment of the crime, it’s like she’s subconsciously reacting to something. Witness… Were YOU the one who was hit with the bottle?
Orly: The one who swung a bottle that night… Was the victim. He… hit me. Because the trap didn’t work.
Kristoph (sung):
This witness is full of lies
Just excuse after excuse
She’s the killer we’re looking for
And now she’s tied her noose. | | Orly (sung):
There are no contradictions for you to find,
Defense, you’re out of luck this time
Olga Orly isn’t lying!
Apollo (whispered): I have to follow my gut. I’m fine.
|
Apollo (sung):
Sir, I don’t think she’s lying
We’re in the right direction
Kristoph: She’s got a motive, Justice
She’s lying!
Phoenix: Objection!
