Ooh! What if we tried to tie this in with the beginning of the trial? Like, steal what MadFox has got for "The Fallen Attorney" and make a quick key change into minor while the trial starts and Apollo doubts himself again, but then back into major when he gathers his resolve, and then ends with a really loud note (And then we can play that "Stop shouting, you're way too loud" joke, too! Spoken, though.) (I will always be impressed because I can't even flesh chords out into a bass line yet. XD Though, I appreciate the editing capabilities of Garageband to the fullest. I actually had something kind of like that in mind! I don't know the melody for The Fallen Attorney offhand though. I'll look into it, because I think that would be a good way to keep the action moving.

Acutally, I think she'd had a melody that she ended up discarding because it was difficult to follow? Though you might wanna check with her on that one.

I dunno if we want any of the parts of the fallen attorney to wind up in the opener. This game IS about Apollo... Mostly... Right?

Whaaaaat?! This is Apollo's game?! XD
But what if we combined the two dogs so we could move the plot along? We could make that section slightly less focused on Phoenix and use it to pump up Apollo's nerves.
Plus, Kristoph doesn't say much in game. He and Phoenix maybe have a stanza's worth. But if we keep going...
Or! What if we did a reprise of the opener as an ending for the Act? Would that provide enough to keep it fresh and less... Short? It would be almost like we stopped the song halfway through when KRISTOPH came in, and then finished it at the end of the trial? Does that make any sense? Prob'ly not. XD
But if we have him singing about how he's served Justice and then Phoenix is like "lol you missed the forged evidence" and he just goes NOOOOOOOO? And then did a minor key because I like key changes. XD

It's the OPENER, though. We can't just shove a ton of information into everyone's faces in the OPENER.

But we have SO many songs... Even in just the first act! Here Comes Justice!, Fallen Attorney, Oh Really, Orly? (AKA the Objection! song), Ace up your Sleeve, Phoenix and Apollo waltz thing, and a summarizing song. At least. Plus script... I'm just afraid we're dragging this project out too long.
Basically, I don't want to just have more verses about how Apollo's ready to go! He's fine!
The most I think we should extend this song without adding more to the plot is maybe a short verse for Kristoph and another round of the second part of the chorus.

If we want to take a part of The Fallen Attorney and use it in this song then it couldn't be sung during the events of the song. It would have to be at the very start of the song, with Phoenix singing from some sort of alternate perspective. Like the song hasn't truly started yet but hes there as a sort of narrator. If it was like that I feel it wouldn't detract away from Apollo in the song. Sort of like Aaron Burr at the start of Say No to This from Hamilton www.youtube.com/watch?v=3tMf9sx7OUA. That would only be if we wanted to do it like that, that's the only place I think it would work

Hmm, I like that idea a lot! It also kinda forshadows the "It's your story from here on out, Apollo" thing. XD

Also whats the Phoenix and Apollo waltz thing...?
From what i can tell the first Act has 6 songs right now. If we took Fallen Attorney as the cold open for Here Comes Justice we would have 5. For reference the orignial Ace Attorney Musical delegated about 4.5 songs to the first case.(August Day, The Objection Song, The Rookie Killer, Justice for All, and part of Reawakening) I don't think its a problem if our Act 1 is longer than theirs because the first case of AJ has a to more stuff going on in it then PW:AA. Obviously we don't want Act 1 to drag on for too long either, but I think 5 songs is good.

Oh, I meant Phoenix and Kristoph waltz. That was a concept we had a while ago that may or may not actually be happening? But it would cover from after Kristoph is accused to the verdict.
I don't think we should count Rookie Killer, though, because it's so short and it's just a joke song. Really, that leaves 3.5 to our 6 or 5... Which is probably an alright length. 5 would make me feel better, honestly.

so we have
Here Comes Justice The Fallen Attorney The Guilty/Culpirit is Phoenix Wright Olga Orly's Testimony Ace up your sleeve Kristoph Song
so thats 6 to 4 songs depending on if we combine The Fallen Attorney into the prelude to Here Comes Justice and if we want to count The Guilty/Culpirit is Phoenix as a real or joke song

I don't have a lot of time to write a good response right this second, but as far as what can be covered in an opening song, here are some examples of opening songs that cover a good amount of info. We don't need to explicitly roll Fallen Attorney's whole point in, but I want to foreshadow some themes and characters beyond just Apollo. Here's my list!
-Footloose/On Any Sunday (from Footloose) -Belle (Beauty and the Beast) -Get Back to Hogwarts (AVPM) -No One Mourns the Wicked (Wicked)
These kind of show the upper limit of what is possible as far as how much info you can cram into an opening number. Because there's so much meat to Apollo Justice, I think it would be prudent to try to convey as much information as possible with each song, so we don't end up with an unperformable 6 hour beast of a musical like TM did, haha.

I do like the idea of a Phoenix interlude... I guess we're going to combine the two, huh? Egads, I've been overruled. XD
In that case, I have an idea for an opening few lines? I'd love to see some crowd interjections talking about how crooked Phoenix is or whatever.
Phoenix: It's his very first day and his very first trial It's the worst of times, so I've got to smile What if the kid can't really perceive? I guess he needs an ace up his sleeve.
I'm not the man they say But this is foul play The truth needs to come out So why am I full of doubt?
Trucy (from a distance): Daddy!
Phoenix (spoken): No... I need to do it. For her. Trucy, I need you to give this card to my lawyer.

That would be an interesting thing to do but I personally think that i the audience found out at the same time as Apollo, it would be more of a shock.

Well, most of these people have played the game before, right? Plus, I don't know if the implication is that it's forged, more that it's just mysterious. Plus, if we take out the mention of what this object is, and maybe even not have Trucy call him Daddy, then It wouldn't be revealed at first.

Okay, so I fiddled around with stuff during my brother's baseball game and I came up with this addition to what we already have. The melodies change some, so I'll record it later for you guys.
I know it's not terribly smooth, but it's just an idea of what we could do. Feel free to suggest things or reject it entirely!
This covers KRISTOPH and the fallen attorny.
KRISTOPH: Justice
APOLLO: Agh! With a capital J
KRISTOPH: (Spoken, kinda muttered) So, that racket was you, huh? You've strained your voice again, haven't you?
APOLLO: I'm fine!
KRISTOPH: Definitely.
(Sung)
You seem a little stressed Just take a breath or two [also insert line here] It's a case we cannot lose
See, your is my friend And he chose you to defend So to save him you must find the way to Justice With a capital J
APOLLO: (spoken) I... I can do this. I'm fine.
KRISTOPH: (Spoken) Now, why don't you go meet your client? Oh, and don't say you're fine so much. People might get the wrong idea.
(Footsteps)
BAILIFF: The trial is about to begin. Could the defense please make its way to the bench.
APOLLO: (to himself) I guess that'll have to wait. I've got this. I'm fine.
(Musical interlude with possible key change into minor and slight retardando. There's an even, almost throbbing back beat, like "one lingering though fills my mind...")
UDGEY: Phoenix Wright... I had hoped to meet again under better circumstances.
PHOENIX: Heh. Me too.
Audience member 1: It's him AM2: He's here again AM3: What's he done this time? AM1: Look how far he's fallen since then.
PAYNE: And to think I saw you enter here, saw you rise and fall
UDGEY: And to think the courts we once held dear are no longer just at all
ALL (minus APOLLO): And to think of all the light that's died in this Dark Age of the Law
APOLLO: (spoken) Why is everyone acting like Mr. Wright's a criminal?
PAYNE: Because he is!
APOLLO: No... I can't believe that!
(Music speeds up again. Changes key back?)
I have to win this trial I'll prove them all wrong, and I'll do it with style This darkness around us I'll just have to end I'm a nervous wreck but I have to pretend
[insert line here] It's alright; I'm gonna be fine [insert other line here] Here comes Justice!
ALL: Justice!
UDGEY: (spoken) Mr. Justice, is the defense ready?
APOLLO: Yes!
(Sung) With a capital J!

The tone shift at the end happens WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY too quickly. I love what you've got there, but waaaaaaaaaaay too quickly.
For your (insert line here), I'd suggest "I need you at your best".
ALSO CAN WE PLEASE THROW CLAY IN HERE SOMEWHERE

Sure can!
Phoenix: It's his very first day and his very first trial It's the worst of times, so I've got to smile I have a plan, but can I follow through? It would make the rumors about me true...
Trucy (from a distance): Daddy!

Also, perfect rhymes are hard.

I was thinking about this and realized it makes it sound as if Phoenix is going to use the card no matter what. Maybe if we have him say, "Trucy, I need you to hold onto this card for me" it will make it vauge enough while still allowing the possibility of not using it. At least for Phoenix.

Also, I finally got around to recording my thing. I decided to try unlisted YouTube videos because it's really obnoxious to make a file because I have to record from my phone ten publish it on my desktop and then upload it on my laptop and then... It's just easier. Though please don't share it to people outside the project. youtu.be/cAXMzqiaq9w...My phone memory is strange though and I need to wait a bit before I can record the second part. I'll do that soon.

It's not a bad thing, everyone does it.

I'm currently working on a melody for some anti-Phoenix peanut gallery. I'll have a rough draft of something in 2-3 days hopefully.

I'm gonna revisit this song over the weekend and try to work in everyone's structure ideas and come up with something a little more concrete. I'll keep y'all up to date on my progress.
