- Opens with a cinematic of the crime in a sepia drawn style, unlike other games. We see the bottle swinging and a scream. We then hear Phoenix calling Kristoph on the phone
- Actual case starts in the lobby, with Apollo nervous and sweaty and his voice squeaking. Kristoph shows up and talks to him for a bit, then leaves.
- Apollo meets Phoenix, who’s very calm for being the defendant. Apollo expresses doubts about being his attorney, but Phoenix assures him that he’s sure of his choice.
- Trial starts. The judge is sad about Phoenix having fallen so far. Phoenix tells him to put it behind them.
- Payne explains the crime. Presents a photo of the crime scene, Judge freaks out about gambling being a crime. Kristoph’s “wreathed in blue flame” quote. Wright is ordered to testify about the poker game.
- Phoenix has gone undefeated for 7 years.
- Judge starts asking about the crime, but Phoenix refuses to testify, saying he was only supposed to be talking about the case. He expected an Objection from the defense.
- Apollo panics but gets Phoenix to plead silence, only saying that he never touched the murder weapon.
- Apollo objects and presents the bottle. He objects again loudly (very loudly). Payne talks about inverted fingerprints.
- Phoenix isn’t explaining the fingerprints. Payne says he’s being uncooperative. Kristoph says he reported the crime. He calls up another witness - Olga Orly
- Olga’s frightened by Apollo’s hair. Talks about her jobs, including taking pictures. She was in the Hydeout being a dealer. She says Phoenix strangled Shadi after the last hand, because there was cheat. Apollo points out that Phoenix has never lost. Payne presents the photo of the cards.
- Apollo objects, saying Shadi died to a blow to the head. Looking at a picture Payne presents, he doesn’t see the locket Shadi was playing with.
- Wright is asked about the locket. It’s a locket with a picture of his daughter.
- Olga explains the points, and Apollo asks which chips were worth what. Apollo figures out Phoenix was winning, and had no motive to kill.
- Olga tells them there was cheating in the hand with a fifth ace played. Apollo checks, but there is no fifth ace in the picture. They examine the actual cards and see that one had a black background.
- Olga slips and says she put a card in Wright’s pocket. Kristoph says that she’s an accomplice, and Apollo accuses her of the crime. She faints.
- The judge is about to end the trial, but Phoenix objects. He asks two questions: When was the card swapped, and who swapped it? Not Wright, or Shadi or Olga.
- Phoenix says it must be a fourth person. Apollo says the card could have only been swapped after the murder. They’re confused why people would switch a card after the game.
- Recess. Kristoph goes to talk to the judge. Apollo sees inside the locket. Phoenix points out Olga’s tic. He also says that nobody has told the truth yet.
- Back to trial. Olga’s awake and told to testify again. She reveals her real personality and starts testifying.
- She was hired to cheat, and to defeat the undefeatable Phoenix. They set up a trap, but it failed. She says Phoenix attacked Shadi with the bottle, but nobody buys it.
- Apollo senses something from her, and asks her a question and feels it again. He focuses, and starts perceiving. Points out her tic and asks about the moment of the crime.
- She says Phoenix was in a daze, but Apollo says he was the one who reported the crime.
- She breaks down, and talks about when the trap failed, she was the one who got hit and got knocked out. When she woke up, he was dead.
- Kristoph calls her a liar and pins it on her, but Phoenix says he’s being hasty and its unlike him. Phoenix insists there must have been a fourth person. He lets Apollo take a guess, then names Kristoph.
- Payne is surprised. Apollo asks that Phoenix testify about the meeting of the killer and victim, but Kristoph objects.
- Kristoph tries to pin it on Olga again, but Phoenix tells him that Apollo’s the defense, not him. Kristoph asks Apollo if he would betray his teacher, but Apollo only insists on the truth.
- Phoenix talks about having dinner with Kristoph, then the events of that night. Kristoph realizes that Phoenix’s goal was to involve him in the case from the beginning.
- Phoenix testifies about the card planted on him. He says he discovered it and put it in his empty juice bottle. Apollo presents the empty bottle in the Court Record and
- Phoenix gets confused. Kristoph is sarcastic and asks if more people came to take it away.
- Apollo presents the photo of Shadi and says Phoenix couldn’t have seen a hat on Shadi’s head if the picture was correct. He relents and says he put Shadi’s hat back on.
- Kristoph calls for the end of the cross, claiming Phoenix has only lied so far, making references to the case 7 years ago. Phoenix doesn’t react. Kristoph makes a reference to Shadi’s “bone china pate” as his forehead.
- Apollo realizes the significance of this and realizes that Kristoph had to have seen Shadi before to know he was balding.
- Phoenix agrees and challenges Kristoph to testify on the stand.
- Recess. Trucy approaches Apollo and gets him to pick the bloody ace. He realizes she’s Phoenix’s daughter after she leaves.
- Trial resumes. Kristoph is asked to testify but says its pointless. Phoenix, now at the bench as co-counsel, objects and reminds Apollo that Shadi had his hat on for the entire time of the game, only losing it when he died.
- Kristoph testifies to seeing the crime through the small window of the Hydeout. He left and got a call from Phoenix. The judge points out that that testimony is bad for his client, but Kristoph claims to only be telling the truth.
- Apollo questions him, then presents the bloody ace. Kristoph accuses Apollo of fraud, but Phoenix tells him the only person who would know it was faked would be the real criminal.
- Apollo pictures the crime scene. He eventually finds that the moving cupboard behind the victim would have had to been opened, which means Kristoph lied about seeing the crime from outside.
- Kristoph tries to divert the conversation by bringing up the inverted fingerprints on the bottle. Apollo presents the picture of Shadi and Phoenix, and says the bottle must have been switched with another from under the piano. Finally, he pins Kristoph in a corner.
- Kristoph slams the witness stand in earthshaking fury and confesses, asking Wright if this is his idea of revenge.
- The case ends with Phoenix warning everyone about a dark time taking over the legal system.
- Aftermath. Phoenix expresses his gratitude, but Apollo disagrees and says he didn’t do anything. Phoenix points out that it was his ability to see Olga’s body language that helped them win the case.
- Phoenix shows his locket to Apollo, and admits he got it from the victim. Apollo says he committed perjury, but Phoenix says he never said the locket was his.
- Apollo realizes that he’s out of a job with his employer in prison. Phoenix invites him to his agency. Apollo’s honored, then remembers that Phoenix isn’t a lawyer anymore. Phoenix invites him again anyways.
- Apollo presents the bloody ace, and Phoenix admits that it was faked. Angry, he hits Phoenix, who only replies that next time he should hit harder next time before leaving.
- Apollo swears to never see Phoenix again, a promise that will soon be broken.
